Dallas, March 20, 2013 /3BL Media/ – Recognizing that men have a significant role in ending domestic violence, Dallas-based Mary Kay Inc. is asking Dallas’ men to be part of the solution. Mary Kay Inc. is proud to announce its sponsorship, partnership and support of Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings’ Men Against Abuse Rally on Saturday March 23, 2013.   Mary Kay Inc. calls on its local independent sales force members, their customers and Mary Kay Inc. employees to stand up, support this rally and share the message that violence is not an option – not in our homes or neighborhoods, amongst our family members or friends – in Dallas or anywhere else.

In the span of one year – from 2011 to 2012 – the number of Dallas murders related to domestic violence doubled. Already this year, four women have needlessly lost their lives due to domestic violence. This isn’t only a Dallas problem or even just a North Texas problem. It’s a worldwide epidemic. But in order for significant change to occur, we must address this issue locally. On Saturday, March 23, at 10 a.m., Mayor Rawlings is asking for 10,000 men to join him in front of Dallas City Hall to pledge never to commit or look away from domestic violence.

“Supporting the Mayor’s Rally is a natural fit as part of Mary Kay’s long-term commitment to preventing and ending domestic violence,” said Crayton Webb, Mary Kay Inc.’s director of corporate social responsibility. “At Mary Kay, we believe in breaking the cycle of abuse before it begins and we know men have a critical and essential role in stopping this national epidemic once and for all.”

Since 1996, Mary Kay Inc. and The Mary Kay FoundationSM have focused on the prevention and elimination of domestic violence through programs such as our Lobbying for Good initiative, Mary Kay’s “Truth About Abuse Survey” and The Mary Kay FoundationSM shelter grant program, which has provided $31 million in funding to domestic violence shelters in all 50 states. In honor of Mary Kay’s 50th anniversary, the company is also sponsoring the country’s first-ever nationwide text-for-help program designed to educate and support young people in building healthy dating relationships, and ultimately, end abuse.
