DESCRIPTION:
CALGARY, Alberta, January 23, 2013 /3BL Media/ – Corporate Knights has again named Enbridge (TSX: ENB) (NYSE:ENB) to its Global 100 ranking of the Most Sustainable Corporations in the World, based on Enbridge’s economic, environmental and social performance in 2012.
This year is the fifth consecutive year that Enbridge has been included on the Global 100, which was recently recognized as one of the world’s most credible corporate sustainability ranking.
“Developing energy infrastructure in a sustainable way is important for Enbridge because it embodies what stakeholders expect and what we need to do to succeed in our business today,” said Al Monaco, Enbridge’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “We have implemented sustainability initiatives at every level of the company. Our particular emphasis is on achieving industry-leading performance across all critical safety, integrity management and environmental protection dimensions of our business.
“We’re committed to ensuring that every decision we make has the best possible impact on our stakeholders, the environment and the communities in which we live and work. We’re also committed to transparency of our CSR performance.”
Corporate Knights collected data for the Global 100 ranking primarily from Bloomberg and through direct engagement with the 350 companies that made the ranking’s shortlist, selected from a starting universe of about 4,000 global mid- and large-cap companies. The final ranking includes companies from 22 countries on six continents with a collective revenue of US$3 trillion and a workforce of nearly 5.3 million.
The Global 100, now in its ninth year, uses a two-step methodology. First, companies from the starting universe are screened according to their sustainability disclosure practices, financial health, product types and recent legal payouts. The companies that remain after the initial screen are then scored relative to their same-sector peers on a set of 12 key performance indicators (KPIs). A different suite of KPIs is used for companies in each sector, depending on industry reporting trends.
Enbridge’s inclusion on the Global 100 ranking is a distinguished addition to a growing list of awards and recognition that the company has received for its CSR performance. Among Enbridge’s other honours include being listed on the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (World and North American), the Financial Times/ London Stock Exchange (FTSE4Good) and Corporate Knights Best 50 Corporate Citizens in Canada ranking.
