Several companies and nonprofit organizations teamed up on innovative initiatives that showed generosity in action.
Giving is up at a majority of the 100 companies surveyed in a new report from America’s Charities. More than two-thirds of those companies offer matching payroll contributions—a 58% increase since 2006. America’s Charities helps the nation’s most trusted charities by generating sustainable income through workplace giving. Participating companies employ more than 1.4 million people, represent more than 20 industry groups, and are geographically diverse. Collectively, they raise more than $230 million annually through employee giving campaigns.
Subaru’s fifth annual “Share the Love” campaign expects to donate $5 million to charities this year. For the initiative, Subaru donated $250 to the owners’ choice of charities for every new vehicle sold or leased from November 21st, 2012 through Jan 2nd, 2013. This year, Subaru’s FaceBook fans voted for the Alzheimer’s Association and the USO to join the ASPCA, Make-A-Wish, and Meals on Wheels on the 2012 list of recipients. This year’s Share the Love effort brings the total of donations delivered by that program over the last five years to $25 million.
The Caesars Foundation and Rebuilding Together teamed up to rebuild homes in Las Vegas, New Orleans, and Hammond, Indiana. Hundreds of volunteers restored the dwellings to contemporary safety standards while renovating them for energy efficiency. In addition, Harrah’s New Orleans raised $50,000 in donations for Rebuilding Together from its guests.
