June 18, 2014 /3BL Media/ - Chat live with one of the creators and producers of popular new climate documentary series, Years of Living Dangerously, starring Matt Damon, Arnold Schwarzenegger and many other influential celebrities, journalists and political leaders, to find out how Hollywood can drive global climate action.
On June 19 at 12pm EST/5pm BST we are hosting a live Twitter Q&A with Joel Bach, Co-Creator and Executive Producer of Years of Living Dangerously, entitled ‘The power of Hollywood to drive climate action’, on hashtag #YEARSproject and @ClimateGroup.
The primetime 9-part documentary series investigates the varying impacts of climate change in all corners of the world, from Syria’s political unrest which was triggered by droughts, to how global warming is affecting the lives of 'everyday' Americans.
Many are hailing the show as a critical landmark in the US climate debate, because it informs a mainstream audience about the urgency needed to demand political leaders address climate change. The series achieves this in part by revealing powerful, personal stories that people can relate to, as well as by working with big celebrities.
Former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and actors Matt Damon, Jessica Alba, Harrison Fordand Ian Somerhalder are among the many celebrities who present the effects of climate change around the world, with the season concluding tonight on a candid interview with President Barack Obama.
Political leaders feature heavily in the series, with Staten Island Representative Michael Grimm, R-N.Y., explaining the impact Superstorm Sandy had on his district, and an episode which follows the new governor of the State of Washington, Jay Inslee, as he prioritizes climate change during his first year in office.
Speaking about the upcoming Twitter Q&A, Joel Bach says: “The show looks at the current impacts of and solutions to climate change. It also delves into the politics of the issue. We worked with some of the biggest stars on the planet, and we asked them to do something they'd never done before: go into the field to meet people and see the effects of global warming with their own eyes.
“I'd love to get your reaction to the show: what worked, what didn't, what stories compelled you to take action, who your favorite celebrities and characters were, and what stories we should consider for a Season Two. I also want to discuss what we feel is the single biggest solution to combating climate change. I'm not going to tell you what that is yet; you'll have to join the Twitter Q&A to find out."
Other Hollywood producers and directors behind the series include Executive Producers Jerry Weintraub and James Cameron, the latter of whom is best-known for blockbusters Avatar and Titanic.
