U.S. Veterans Magazine has included Cisco on its 2012 “Best of the Best” list of Top 100 Companies Recruiting Veterans.

We are proud of this acknowledgement because in the last couple of years, we have increased our efforts to support transitioning military personnel, veterans, and military families, particularly in the areas of employment and education. Our efforts include:

Increased hiring of military veterans. Cisco is a founding member of the 100,000 Jobs Mission, a coalition of more than 80 companies committed to collectively hire 100,000 veterans by 2020.  We are also participating in hiring events at military bases around the United States and leveraging Cisco WebEx technology to enable virtual interviewing and hiring.

Supporting cloud-based job resource portals. Cisco has provided seed funding to software developer Futures, Inc. to create sophisticated job and career resource “pipelines” that match military job codes to civilian job openings. Through pipelines like Hero2Hired, veterans and transitioning military personnel can search for jobs suited to their skills and experience.

Information and communications technology (ICT) training. Cisco Networking Academy courses are currently offered at 1860 locations across the United States, including 21 on U.S. Army, Marine, and Navy bases. The Networking Academy program teaches people to design, build, manage, and secure networks, providing a pathway to entry-level ICT jobs, further education, and globally recognized industry certifications. Through tuition assistance and the GI Bill, veterans can enroll in Networking Academy courses offered at accredited community colleges and post-secondary institutions.

The Best of the Best list is compiled from market research, independent research, confidential employee interviews, and responses to surveys conducted by DiversityComm representatives and/or its affiliates. The results are published in the November 2012 special Veterans Day edition of U.S. Veterans Magazine, published by DiversityComm.
