DESCRIPTION:
MILWAUKEE, June 13, 2013 /3BL Media/ - Johnson Controls, the global leader in delivering solutions that increase energy efficiency in buildings, will recognize three students – a superhero called Conservation Man, calendar designer and songwriter – who promote environmental protection and sustainable living as winners of the 2013 Igniting Creative Energy (ICE) Challenge. The winners will be recognized at the 24th annual Energy Efficiency Forum at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., June 13.
ICE is an educational competition that encourages students to submit creative projects that demonstrate ways to live a more sustainable life and protect the environment. This year’s winners were selected from more than 1,000 entries.
Zachary Stevenson, third grade, Black Rock School, Thomaston, Conn. – “Conservation Man”
Zachary created a video that shows Conservation Man jumping to action to help his family make environmentally-wise choices.
“I hope people learn ways to conserve energy around the house,” said Stevenson. “I learned that it is easy to reuse, reduce and recycle. It is important to conserve energy because you can’t make more fossil fuels or water. Anyone can help save the environment – even kids!”
Morgan Colling, eighth grade, Houghton Middle School, Chassell, Mich. – “Conservation Tips Calendar”
Morgan designed a calendar full of tips and tricks to save energy and to live a more eco-friendly life. The stars of the calendar are her pet dogs, Bella and Gunner.
“I hope to inspire others not only to learn about conserving energy and being aware of their impression on the environment, but to ‘practice what they preach’ and take action,” said Colling.
Caleb Zenobia, eleventh grade, Thomaston High School, Thomaston, Conn. – “The Other Side is Sand” song
Caleb submitted an original song, “The Other Side is Sand.”
“Music is what brings people together, and if we can unite people under a universal goal to increase energy efficiency and use clean burning energy sources, then we truly can save the future of our wonderful Mother Earth.”
The Energy Efficiency Forum is a national event that promotes energy efficiency by presenting global views and the resulting impact on the environment, national security and economic growth. The 24th annual Energy Efficiency Forum will explore the role of energy efficiency in this new energy economy.
The contest is sponsored and funded through a grant by Johnson Controls, with additional support and administration by the National Energy Foundation.
