DESCRIPTION:

During an on-court halftime presentation in the Orlando Magic vs. Boston Celtics game on April 13, 2013, Orlando Magic honored Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, among other organizations, for efforts in supporting literacy throughout Central Florida through the Magic’s Baskets for Books program.

HMH's Nikki Reynolds and Jim Diamond were joined by Orlando Magic’s Vice President of Community Relations Linda Landman-Gonzalez, Community Ambassador Bo Outlaw, player Nick Anderson, and children from ABC Learning Tree, a learning and development center which has benefited from the program (pictured).

HMH worked hand-in-hand with Orlando Magic all season, supporting literacy throughout the region. For every point made by the Magic at each home game, one HMH book was donated to the Early Learning Coalition of Orange County, Florida. Based on the points scored at home games this past season, HMH’s Orlando Community Investment Council stuffed over 6,000 books into over 900 backpacks for 15 childcare development centers throughout Central Florida.

Furthermore, Magic player Glen “Big Baby” Davis and Magic Community Ambassador Bo Outlaw built a reading corner at Mount Sinai Child Development Center using 500 children's titles donated by HMH. “Story Time” featuring HMH's iconic children's book character Curious George was held there by Magic players E’Twaun Moore and Kyle O’Quinn, along with Bo Outlaw and Head Coach Jacque Vaughn.
