With summer fast approaching, the employees of Vigilant Global find themselves in the preparation stages of one of the biggest athletic fundraising activities in the Montreal area: the Ride to Conquer Cancer. An annual event, the Ride profits the Segal Centre for Cancer at the Jewish General Hospital and involves two days of cycling through the Quebec countryside. Riders leave from Montreal and arrive just outside of Québec city. They contribute to the profits by individually raising funds to pay their participation fees.
Vigilant director and co-founder Arvind Ramanathan says the Ride to Conquer Cancer is the activity he looks forward to most in the year; ”it’s unbelievable how much fun [the ride] is. Everyone is cycling together, encouraging each other and chatting along the way. The organizers and volunteers are devoted, and the whole thing is just impeccably planned”.
The Ride spoils its cyclists with frequent rest stops, yummy lunches, a fully-furnished campsite, and all the snacks they could possibly ask for. Participants include people from all walks of life; employees, families friends, cancer survivors and others who have been affected by the illness. Last year, the Vigilant global cycling team raised over 23,000$ for the Ride. The entire event raised a total of over 7 million dollars.
This year, cyclists will be on the road with the Ride to Conquer Cancer July 6th and 7th.
