DESCRIPTION:

Southern Power and Turner Renewable Energy have acquired its first solar installation in North Carolina, the 2.5 megawatt Granville Facility. Ted Turner, owner of Turner Renewable, teamed up with a Southern Company subsidiary in 2010 to develop renewable energy projects. The partnership has made three previous purchases of solar facilities in New Mexico and Nevada.

The U.K.s Energy Secretary has promised to clarify issues about power market reforms next month, in response to concerns expressed by renewable and nuclear power developers. Secretary Ed Davey also said he will set a target for cutting carbon emissions in the power industry.

Torc Oil and Gas has acquired Canada’s Vero Energy for $150 million to boost its presence in light oil assets. The deal is the latest in a series of light-oil asset buyouts as an increasing number of North American energy companies shift toward oil and liquids-rich gas projects in a market context of weak natural gas prices.
