DESCRIPTION:

So that’s been my sort of journey in IKEA, the pursuit of transformational into good. It’s not that you shouldn’t do some of the incrementally less bad stuff, but if you look at the challenges in society, yeah, we’re using one and a half planet’s resources, these three billion people coming out of poverty and joining the global middle class who are after them into that families-- one hell of a sustainability challenges.  So, we need to move quickly on delivering that, we do need to transform the product and services. We need to look at making our business completely sustainable.  So, we just launched a new sustainability strategy, this week actually.  And we launched it externally.  It was -- it’s an internal business steering document so this is for the 140,000 people in IKEA, but there was so much enthusiasm—people were going to print tee-shirts and found it positive and we thought we better—we’ll release it in a controlled fashion rather than let it the sort of explode out randomly onto the world so we release it this week. But we didn’t rewrite the document, it’s just the same document for our colleagues, and it’s called People & Planet Positive because we want our business to have a positive impact on the world—you know, it’s kind of obvious, doesn’t it, you decide.  It’s the 21st century, all businesses should see to have a positive impact on the world.  But, you know, we know we still have things to address.
