SOURCE:Bloomberg

DESCRIPTION:

Bloomberg today announced the 2017 Financial Services Gender-Equality Index (BFGEI), providing investors and organizations with unique insight into the statistics, policies, product offerings and external engagement driving 52 firms’ commitment to building gender-equal workplaces. Bloomberg also introduced a Fixed Income Gender-Equality Index, representing investment grade debt issued by the 2017 BFGEI member firms.

“Companies are increasingly focused on managing operational risks, including the attraction and retention of employees,” said Angela Sun, Head of Strategy and Corporate Development at Bloomberg. “As investors look for new drivers of risk-aware alpha, the demand for data around gender equality and other social and governance metrics continues to grow. The BFGEI brings greater transparency to the practices and policies crucial to managing those risks and attracting investor capital.”

Volkswagen Continues Efforts to Increase Supplier Diversity

by Stacy M. Brown, NNPA Contributor

SOURCE:Volkswagen Group

DESCRIPTION:

Edkedsha “KeeKee” Mathis Is on a Mission to Increase Supplier Diversity at Volkswagen. As the Supplier Diversity Manager at the Volkswagen Group of America’s plant in Chattanooga, Tenn., Mathis said she relies on a concept called the three A’s: Aim high, apply yourself and achieve your goals.

Mathis, whose supplier diversity position falls under the company’s purchasing department within the Chattanooga Plant location, which employs about 2,800 workers, said that her concept is rooted in the philosophy that credibility is built on results and leaders that achieve by doing and not just advising.

“As a young adult venturing into the business world, I had a road map and goals. One year, three years, five years and 10 years,” Mathis said. “That’s something you need to stick to. Make two road maps, one for yourself on a personal level and a professional one to present your leadership as the path that you want to follow.”

Mathis continued: “When you are in your evaluations with leadership, you can show them this is where you are and this is where you want to be; advise your leadership that you need their guidance and support to meet these goals.”

For Mathis – whom colleagues and family members affectionately call “KeeKee,” – mentoring and offering advice to young women, minorities, and anyone within the diversity community is one of the traits she’s demonstrated as she’s helped Volkswagen’s Supplier Diversity Program remain one of the most successful in the world.

Born and raised in Chattanooga, Mathis has been with Volkswagen for eight years and she has more than 20 years of experience in purchasing, which includes supporting as a regional buyer, service buyer, supply chain support, key user for all of the purchasing systems and lean management.

Previously, she worked for 13 years as a buyer for the Wrigley Company.

“There’s nothing to fear, but fear itself,” she said. “The only barrier between yourself and success is you. No one can stop you from what you want to accomplish, but you.”

The powerful principles of diversity and inclusion — which promotes superior performance and competitive advantage — has helped Volkswagen Group of America create an environment where everyone can feel respected and appreciated, company officials said.

Mathis said much of her job is spent traveling and engaging with minority and diverse suppliers as executive leaders in the company participate each year in a diversity strategy conference to help shape Volkswagen’s diversity initiative.

Through Volkswagen’s Diversity Outreach initiative, the company has continuously sought opportunities to partner with community and diversity based organizations like the National Urban League, Out and Equal, the National Association of Minority Automobile Dealers (NAMAD), the Tri-State Minority Supplier Diversity Council (TSMSDC), National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC), and The Chattanooga Chamber.

“I closely coordinate with buyers and purchasing managers to ensure we have inclusion of our diverse suppliers within our purchasing processes,” said Mathis. “Diversity represents a different range of categories including minority-owned, women-owned, veteran-owned and LGBT.”

Mathis continued: “And, it’s not only identifying these suppliers, but mentoring and developing them to make sure they have the capabilities needed by Volkswagen.”

For instance, Volkswagen’s commitment toward supplier diversity is almost like no other company. If Mathis and, or, other Volkswagen officials find that some minority suppliers don’t possess the capability, Mathis helps to develop those suppliers to gain the experience and ability to become a Volkswagen supplier.

“My job is to support them. In most cases [request for quotations] have gone out when we’ve had really small businesses that wanted to participate in the bidding process,” Mathis said. “I may tell them they can go through the process, see what the scope of the work entails, and they will know, in the future, how they can build up their capacities to submit a proper proposal that meets the requirements.”

Mathis said that it’s also important to provide diverse suppliers the tools and feedback needed to be successful as Volkswagen suppliers and community members. Those tools include mentoring, training, feedback (positive and opportunities for improvement), networking, and one-on-one meetings with responsible buyers and business units.

Mathis said that participating in the Center of Excellence (COE) at TSMSDC is a great way for suppliers to improve their services by identifying their strengths and weaknesses.

She also coordinates several best practices that include increasing supplier diversity program awareness within the organization, working to keep top leadership committed and informed about the importance of the program, mentoring suppliers, and training new and current suppliers.

Additionally, Mathis works to build strategic partnerships and alliances with diverse suppliers.

“I can help suppliers even if it means partnering with them with a larger business that’s willing to work with them, because a larger business can be used as mentors,” said Mathis. “We are always looking for partners throughout the year and there’s no cut off on identifying such suppliers, which is why I attend trade shows and trade fairs nationally.”

At Volkswagen, more than 10 percent of production purchasing has been awarded to minority-owned businesses and 10 percent for non-production in 2016. Mathis said there are always opportunities for suppliers, however, they must be properly certified, registered, and be competitive.

“Volkswagen has been working hard so that diversity and inclusion is a part of our day to day business,” Mathis said. “At Volkswagen, our goal is to be recognized as a top company for diversity and inclusion practices as part of being a top employer in our city.”

Award Recipients are Top Environmental Performers and Leaders in Freight Supply Chain Efficiency

SOURCE:Kimberly-Clark Corporation

DESCRIPTION:

DALLAS, February 10, 2017 /3BL Media/ -- Kimberly-Clark Corporation (NYSE: KMB) has been honored as an industry leader in freight supply chain environmental performance and energy efficiency with its seventh SmartWay® Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Kimberly-Clark was one of nine companies in the shipper and logistics category to receive this distinction, which recognizes the best environmental performers among SmartWay’s 3,500 members.

Since joining the SmartWay program in 2006, Kimberly-Clark has more than doubled its use of intermodal transport. By replacing trucks with rail, the company has saved an estimated 82 million gallons of diesel fuel and reduced greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 830,000 metric tons -- the equivalent of the energy used by 87,000 homes for one year. The adoption of more efficient transport has also saved the company an estimated $472 million.

"We're proud to be recognized as a leader in reducing carbon pollution and for our ongoing commitment to energy efficiency," said Scott DeGroot, vice president of transportation for Kimberly-Clark. "In 2015 alone, using more intermodal transportation to move our products saved the company an estimated 9.4 million gallons of fuel and prevented an estimated 200 million pounds of greenhouse gas from entering the atmosphere.

The SmartWay Excellence Awards for shippers and logistics companies were presented last September at the Council of Supply Chain Management & Professional Annual Conference.

"SmartWay Shipper Partners understand that by improving supply chain efficiency they not only reduce freight transport costs, but also reduce emissions of the carbon pollution that contributes to climate change,” said Christopher Grundler, director of EPA’s Office of Transportation & Air Quality, “Participating in EPA’s SmartWay Transport Partnership helps these businesses move goods in a manner that is better for business and helps protect our climate.”

Demonstration of a commitment to corporate sustainability and social responsibility through SmartWay provides for a more competitive and environmentally-friendly business environment. Since 2004, SmartWay Partners have saved 170.3 million barrels of oil—the equivalent of eliminating annual energy use in over 6 million homes and $24.9 billion in fuel costs. SmartWay’s clean air achievements (72.8 million metric tons of carbon dioxide, 1,458,000 tons of nitrogen oxides, and 59,000 tons of particulate matter emissions avoided) help to protect the well-being of citizens.

DESCRIPTION:

For outdoor lifestyle brand Timberland, service permeates the company culture.  Through the Path of Service™ program, Timberland provides full-time employees with up to 40 paid hours to perform community service each year. Employees who serve all of their 40 hours earn membership in Timberland’s “40’s Club.” To honor this group of dedicated employees, Timberland hosts an annual celebration at its Stratham, NH headquarters. This year the company’s celebration, which took place on February 7, was twofold: honor employees dedicated to volunteerism and celebrate the largest group of 40’s Club members since the program started in 2009.

“While service is part of Timberland’s DNA, many employees find it difficult to use all 40 of their hours. To make service more accessible, we offer creative ways to empower employees to serve at work, and also encourage them to serve in their communities in ways that speak to their personal passions,” said Atlanta McIlwraith, Timberland’s senior manager of community engagement and communications. “As a result, membership of the 40’s Club increased 30 percent over 2015.”

GSK Creates a New Business Model with Innovative Marketing and Sales Practices

SOURCE:Ethical Performance

DESCRIPTION:

The pharmaceutical company ranks first in both trust and customer value, according to a survey of 4,000 US healthcare professionals. Tom Idle reports…

It is hard to think of a more contentious business practice than the one historically used to sell pharmaceuticals. For the past 50 years, sales representatives have been compensated based on the total number of prescriptions written, without any specific regard as to patient need. Similarly, doctors have been paid to represent and speak on behalf of the same products and companies that the sector is keen for them to prescribe.

It is a situation that has fuelled a widespread belief that the pharma industry cares more about profit than patient wellbeing. These traditional commercial practices have gone unchallenged—until now.

Global healthcare company GSK has made a number of changes to the way it sells and markets its products around the world. Now, no GSK sales representatives are compensated based on individual sales targets. Instead, they are incentivised on their scientific knowledge of each product, their customer service feedback, and the wider success of the business.

Many of us can’t image a world without books. Yet for billions of people, that is a reality. Literacy skills are more than just reading and writing, but creates educational opportunities for individuals to improve their well-being. Through Eastman’s Corporate Responsibility efforts, we have partnered with Room to Read®, a global non-profit organization, to provide children and young women access to books and learning opportunities in developing countries.

“Literacy is an important factor to breaking the cycle of poverty,” says David A. Golden, Senior Vice President, Chief Legal and Sustainability Officer, and Corporate Secretary. “By partnering with Room to Read, we are striving to provide children, particularly young girls, in developing countries with a better future through education. It is the basis for lifelong learning and plays a key foundational role in the creation of sustainable and prosperous societies.”

Working across Africa and Asia, Room to Read’s mission is to transform the lives of millions of children in developing countries by focusing on literacy and gender equality in education. Eastman currently supports two Room to Read programs in India that focus on Literacy and Girls’ Education. The early primary school for literacy acquisition helps children to develop literacy skills and a habit of reading while the Girls’ Education Program ensures girls can complete secondary school with the life skills necessary to succeed in school and beyond.

Literacy Program

To date, Eastman is supporting 5 school libraries in India - Delhi (2), Maharashtra (2), and Telangana. The libraries provide a child-friendly learning environment that enables children to develop the skills and habit of reading early in life, encouraging them to become life-long and independent readers. Room to Read’s involvement includes ensuring the school has a quality library with books in the children’s local language, as well as teachers/librarians who are trained in the best practices of library management. Ensuring that families, communities and governments are all engaged in the transformation of the school and committed to its success is fundamental to the program.

Girls’ Education

Eastman’s support ensures that 115 girls thrive in secondary school and have the skills to negotiate key life decisions. Room to Read’s program reinforces girls’ commitment to their own education, works to develop essential life skills and increases support for girls’ education among their parents, school staff, and communities. The program also includes social mobilizers - local women who are hired as mentors and work with girls and their families to ensure that girls stay in school, participate in activities, and navigate the challenges of adolescence with the ability to make their own life choices, both personally and professionally.

State Street CEO to Boards of Companies in Portfolio: Disclose More About the Impact of Climate Change on Your Business -- Be More Transparent...and More

G&A's SustainabilityHighlights (10.2.2017)

SOURCE:Governance & Accountability Institute, Inc.

DESCRIPTION:

State Street Corp is one of the world's leading asset managers, with US$2.47 trillion in AUM.  State Street Global Advisors CEO Ron O'Hanley in late-January sent a message to the boards of directors of public companies whose stock is in State Street portfolios:  SSGA is increasing focus on climate change, safety, workplace diversity and various other ESG issues.  Especially climate change.  Tell us more about what you are doing.

How?  The State Street Global Advisors CEO is asking, how is the board [of the company] preparing the enterprise for the impacts of climate change?  He is communicating to these directors that it is necessary for boards to disclose more about those plans.  The CEO's letter was accompanied by a description of the framework that SSGA uses to evaluate public companies' sustainability efforts.

In this week's first Top Story, the highlights of the approach are described for you. Three criteria are used to evaluate and rank companies -- as Tier One, Two and Three.  Tier One companies satisfy the three criteria.  The results are reflected in the proxy voting of SSGA, the #3 asset manager of ETF's in the USA (Exchange Traded Funds).

There were 177 companies in the portfolio that SSGA evaluated in 2016; a mere 7% qualified as Tier One.  Tier Two totals 72%, which meant that companies had a sustainability program but had not integrated it into its overall business strategy, articulated how ESG factors affected long-term strategies, or established long-term goals aligned with ESG strategy. (Tier Three companies were described as not doing anything ESG-wise, 21% of companies in the portfolio, according to the Think Advisor story.)

Company boards and C-suite should consider that State Street is an active player in the coming proxy voting season.  SSGA supported 46% of climate-related proposals in 2016.  That's important when you consider the competition:  the vote count was zero (voting) at Vanguard, American Funds, Black Rock and Fidelity -- a source of concern and a growing level of activism on the issue among sustainable & responsible investing advocates.

In an interview with Bloomberg's top environmental reporter, Emily Chasan in January (our second Top Story below), SSGA CEO O'Hanley said:  "We're asking companies to make sure they are identifying and communicating both their risks and opportunities.  Climate change may be the poster child for risk out there."

The Bloomberg Business Week story has a neat chart for you, with the voting records of "shares of proxy votes in favor of climate-related proposals."  The Top 20 of the world's asset managers' voting records are presented.  State Street is the fifth-ranked (at the top).

Stay Tuned, as we often say, to the coming 2017 Proxy Voting Season at public companies.  ESG issues are front and center at some large corporate issuers and the action will be in the maneuvering around the shareholder-offered resolutions on climate change and other ESG issues by the entire voting body.

DESCRIPTION:

SUNRISE, Fla., January 13, 2017/ 3BL Media/  - As part of their continued commitment to youth hockey and community outreach initiatives, the Florida Panthers partnered with JetBlue to brighten the day of a few new hockey fans with a special street hockey clinic at the BB&T Center on Monday.

"We're happy to be out here supporting these kids," said JetBlue's Southeast Regional Marketing Manager Nicky Tesser, who was joined by roughly 15 volunteers at the event. "Like the Panthers, JetBlue believes in giving back to the community in which we serve."

JetBlue, the organization's official airline partner, has been working hand-in-hand with the Panthers for several years in an effort to grow youth hockey both locally and abroad, most recently sponsoring a pair of overseas clinics in the Dominican Republic (2015).

"I think it's great," Panthers Director of Community Relations John Colombo said of the clinic. "It gives us a chance to give back to the community. JetBlue has always been a great partner with us involving our street hockey clinics overseas, so it's great to be able to do one here locally and put some sticks in kids hands."

With the sun shining and a cool breeze in the air, children from the Boys & Girls Club of Broward County and S.O.S. Children's Villages descended upon the JetBlue Tarmac outside of the BB&T Center, eager to put on a jersey and get their hands on a hockey stick - a first-time experience for many in attendance.

"With the Panthers help, we can help more kids," said Ronald Lewis, who serves as Club Director for the Lester H. White Boys & Girls Club. "The kids enjoy playing hockey. The Panthers also gave us equipment for the kids so play with, so it's a big pleasure to be partners with them.

"This is very important for the kids. They don't get a chance to go to Panthers games, but then you can bring us out here and let the kids play at a real arena like this. It's awesome. We really appreciate it."

With three street hockey rinks set up outside of the arena, the Panthers also called upon three players - Alex Petrovic, Mike Matheson and Greg McKegg -- to serve as the clinic's special guest instructors, leading kids through various drills and offering some helpful tips during the lighthearted scrimmages.

"I think it's cool," Petrovic said. "For people to appreciate the game, they've got to play it. I think all these kids out here are really enjoying themselves. It's a little different than playing soccer, basketball or even baseball, but it's a fun sport and I think they'll all really enjoy it.

"It's really important for the logo and the Panthers to get our name out there in the community. We're going to grow the game and grow the team that way. It's really huge. The more fans we get, the more energetic we get. It's a win-win."

An Edmonton, Alberta native, Petrovic believes that ball hockey is a great way to grow the game in an area like South Florida where ice can sometimes be a little hard to come by.

"Every summer I used to play on a ball hockey team," Petrovic said. "There were big leagues up in Edmonton. It's pretty big up in Canada. It's a lot of fun. It's a little bit different than ice hockey, but it's really fun. I think it's a great way for anyone to learn the game."

As part of the newfound Community Champions Grant Program, the Panthers have previously provided over $50,000 of financial support to both the Boys & Girls Club and S.O.S. Children's Villages, but it's the hands-on events like Monday's street hockey clinic that will likely continue to leave some of the most indelible marks on the community.

"I think when [Panthers owners] Vinnie [Viola] and Doug [Cifu] put this together, I think the biggest thing was a partnership," Columbo said. "A partnership goes both ways. It's not only financial. It's also being able to give an in-kind factor. The pillars of our foundation are kids and youth hockey, so this really hits both points.

"It also gets these kids out to have an experience that they otherwise probably wouldn't have had. For us, growing the game is key, but giving back to these kids and the local community is huge."

The bank’s joint programme is part of its Shared Growth Ambition strategy to improve lives while providing returns to shareholders. Tom Idle reports…

As global financial institutions double down on programs to earn public trust, Barclays’ roots in the Quaker movement give it a unique context from which to project its social contributions. The business, which has operations in more than 50 countries, can be traced back some 325 years to two Quakers, John Freame and Thomas Gould, who established themselves as goldsmith bankers in the City of London in 1690. Helped in no small part by their Quaker connections, their business flourished and helped to pave the way for the development of the business we know today.

Fast forward to 2012, and the company launched its first ever unified citizenship plan – a commitment designed to engage all parts of its global business and explore how the key decisions it makes at a strategic level, as well as on a day-to-day basis, might contribute more positively to society. The result is a strategic plan designed to help customers, clients and community members better prosper, enabling further growth of the business in the process.

The strategy will play out over the next few years in a number of ways, including a smart new initiative called Unreasonable Impact – a multi-year partnership between Barclays and Unreasonable Group. It is a programme designed to support entrepreneurs whose ideas and solutions have the potential to be scaled up to both help solve some of today’s most pressing societal challenges, as well as employing people worldwide.

What Governments Can Do to Address Cancer

Message from Bloomberg Philanthropies Public Health Program on World Cancer Day

While much work remains to find a cure for cancer – the good news is we know that many forms of cancer are preventable. On World Cancer Day, a moment when the global community comes together to reflect on those lost to cancer, as well as the advances we need to make to find a cure,  it’s important to remember that there are actions that governments and individuals can take to prevent cancer. In fact, governments hold many levers that can actually address this leading killer.

For example, governments – both at the national and municipal levels – can and should take on tobacco. A staggering twenty-two percent of all cancer deaths are tobacco-related. One of the most effective strategies to cut into tobacco use is to raise tobacco taxes, which not only reduces use but also increases government revenue. When Bloomberg Philanthropies founder Mike Bloomberg served as Mayor of New York City, mortality rates from cancer declined 6.4% compared to 2001.

While we can’t definitively say this was the direct result of one action, we do know that efforts to curb tobacco – like implementing bans on smoking in work places and public spaces, raising the price through increased taxes, and airing hard-hitting media campaigns, had important  impact.

AkzoNobel Reduces CO2 Emissions by 100,000 Tons Thanks to New Bio-steam Facility

Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs Henk Kamp commissions new bio-steam supply from energy company Eneco to AkzoNobel

SOURCE:AkzoNobel

SUMMARY:

  • AkzoNobel, Eneco and Groningen Seaports have jointly invested around €40 million in the project
  • The converted plant delivers twice as much sustainable energy for the same amount of biomass
  • An additional 10 percent of AkzoNobel’s energy consumption in the Netherlands now comes fromrenewable sources, resulting in a reduction of 100,000 tons of CO2 per year, equivalent toapproximately one billion car kilometres or 12,500 households
  • An important investment in terms of making the chemical industry in the north-east of theNetherlands more future-proof

DESCRIPTION:

February 13, 2017 /3BL Media/ - Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs Henk Kamp, Eneco and Groningen Seaports today opened a facility which will supply steam from biomass to the chemical park at Delfzijl in the Netherlands – primarily for AkzoNobel’s Specialty Chemicals site.

Eneco has converted its biomass plant into a combined heat and power (CHP) plant, which provides both electricity and steam from renewable biomass. The steam is transported via a pipeline constructed by Groningen Seaports.

The conversion has increased the efficiency of the Netherlands’ largest biomass plant – the same amount of biomass now produces twice as much renewable energy. The transition from fossil fuels to sustainably-produced steam means an additional 10 percent of AkzoNobel’s energy consumption in the Netherlands now comes from renewable sources, resulting in a reduction of 100,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year.

Minister Kamp said: "The North of the Netherlands is leading the way in the transition to sustainable energy. The Northern provinces and municipalities were the first to have a plan for implementing the Dutch Energy Agreement. The chemical park in Delfzijl is underlining these ambitions by switching to sustainably produced steam. By doing this, the parties involved are not only investing in energy reduction and lower CO2 emissions, they are also contributing to the regional economy by enabling the sustainable growth of the chemical cluster.”

Around 10 percent of total Dutch chemical production comes from Delfzijl and the industry is a major employer in the region. The project is further improving the long-term competitiveness of the cluster of chemical companies at the site. The three parties have jointly invested around €40 million in the project.

Eneco’s biomass plant processes around 300,000 tons of timber each year scrapped from demolition projects and waste to produce sustainable electricity and steam. AkzoNobel was already a significant consumer of electricity produced by the plant.

Groningen Seaports has built the required infrastructure to bring the steam to the chemical park, including the steam piping, which is also accessible to third parties. This makes the site more attractive for (future) factories, which will need steam for their production and supports the sustainable development of regional industries.

Eneco has entered into a 12-year contract with AkzoNobel for the supply of bio-steam. In addition, AkzoNobel will invest in the required infrastructure at the chemical park, offering continuity in the provision of a vital utility for other chemical companies at the location.

Republican Governors Lead in Clean Energy Policy - The Minute

SOURCE:3BL Media, LLC

DESCRIPTION:

There’s an unexpected fact in today’s topsy turvy politics: Republican governors are taking the lead in clean energy. A post on The Hill website notes that two former governors who are now cabinet members set the pattern: Rick Perry, the new Secretary of Energy, supported market-based, renewable energy technology that made Texas the national leader in wind energy. And South Carolina’s, Nikki Haley, now UN Ambassador, was an advocate of solar energy development and of regulatory reform to create an advanced energy economy.

The party that emphasizes state-level government has now developed a list of current Republican governors who support clean energy. It includes Illinois’s Bruce Rauner who has expanded clean energy production, Nevada’s Brian Sandoval who has formed a bipartisan group of 17 governors in an initiative to revitalize the electrical grid, and the governors of Vermont, Massachusetts, Maryland, Vermont, and New Hampshire.

Such momentum for clean energy policy at the state level could lead to a national strategy to guide the country’s energy future. I’m John Howell for 3BL Media.

Why It’s The Best Time In History To Post A Volunteer Opportunity

DESCRIPTION:

With volunteerism on the rise in the U.S., more VolunteerMatch opportunities in more places, and enhanced nonprofit functionality, there’s never been a better time to post your volunteer opportunities on VolunteerMatch!

Volunteerism On the Rise

In case you missed it, the days following President Donald Trump’s inauguration were the busiest in VolunteerMatch.org’s nearly 20-year history. On January 24, 2017, we welcomed over 70,000 website visits and witnessed site traffic jump by as much as 76%. And between the inauguration and today, February 9, 2017, we’ve seen over one million visits to VolunteerMatch.org.

November 10, 2016 — just two days following President Trump’s election — saw our second busiest spike in traffic. And it’s not just us. The volunteer recruitment website Golden saw website visitors double since the election.

Typically, we might associate traffic jumps with advertising campaigns or concerted marketing efforts, but this time, what we’re observing is different. “Right now there is clearly a lot of energy around people looking to get more involved and make a commitment to the things they care about,” says President Greg Baldwin in the Chronicle of Philanthropy.

And the effects on organizations can be felt far and wide. Nonprofits with missions that are threatened by the incumbent administration — like Planned Parenthood and organizations with a focus on immigrants and refugee services — are receiving an influx of support.
